Field Trip

Explore South Africa’s tobacco industry and natural wonders
The GTNF 2013 Field Trip: 4-6 November 2013

The GTNF 2013 Field Trip is inspired by the scale and potential of African tobacco production and the power and beauty of South Africa’s living landscapes.

We have combined these exhilarating elements into an extraordinary professional and personal experience, blending tradition, technology and the timeless thrill of seeing elusive wildlife in its natural habitat.

Highlights include:

  • Factory visit: Tour a facility that produces cigarettes and semi-processed tobacco for domestic use and exports.
  • 100 years and still growing: We are invited to visit a tobacco farm that has been in the same family for more than a century.
  • LTP Green Leaf Processing Plant: Thanks to Universal Leaf, we can see and handle tobacco from all over Africa at this green-leaf threshing and processing facility in Rustenburg.
  • Packaging perfected: Nampak, Africa’s largest packaging company, will host us. We’ll see the packaging approaches and technologies that continue to win awards, including one in 2011 for BAT’s Vogue cigarettes.

Our base for two nights will be Bakubung Bush Lodge. A member of the prestigious Legacy Hotels and Resorts group, Bakubung is just two hours and a whole world away from the bustle of Johannesburg. Set in Pilanesberg National Park, Bakubung offers the thrill of spotting wildlife in its natural setting. And its well-appointed and welcoming meeting spaces are also the natural setting for networking with colleagues, old and new.

The price of the Big Country Field Trip is $999 per person, to include travel to all venues and excursions, two nights’ accommodations and all meals. (Price does not include flights to and from Johannesburg and Cape Town.)

The 2013 GTNF Field Trip departs from OR Tambo International Airport (Johannesburg) at 10 a.m. on Monday, 4 November.
